Who should read the Great Transition The Emergence of Unconventional Leadership? Everyone that wants to build a foundation for the future.
If you want to put the mortar back into the bricks of retail you need to understand what needs to change.
History has shown us that there are countless businesses as old as 1,000 years still in operation today. Why? And what were they doing differently? Sure the world has been changing for hundreds of years. In 1918-1920 it was the Spanish Flu, in 1920-21 there was a little known economic depression that followed that pandemic. In 1929 the financial crash, followed by the Great Depression. The internet was made available to the public in 1993, which at first was only a browser for information it quickly evolved with e-commerce and social media. The world has been filled with relentless change, in 9/11 in 2001, the financial crash of 2007-2008. But in 2007 Apple released its first Smart Phone, it was the beginning of decoupling consumers from their homes and desks, free to browse and communicate. The Great Recession wasn't far behind the financial crash. Consumers were looking for ways to lower their own costs that gave way to more e-commerce including the growth of convenience and off prices stores. It was the beginning of the retail apocalypse.
However we all know that this isn't over not yet. The pandemic has given way to governments labeling consumer based businesses as essential or nonessential. This has pushed consumers searching for greater convenience and of course that has been with far more online shopping.
The author tells us that many officials want you to believe that consumers will return to their old habits. However that may take longer and could be very different than even the most optimistic might hope for.
Why the Great Transition the Emergence of Unconventional Leadership? Because it is the business experience and skills that you will need to stay in the game for the long-term, during and post pandemic.
